I love disco, but think this album demonstrates the common failing of the genre neglecting the bass and melody and focusing just on a pneumatic-style beat. ("Warm Love" is a good first two minutes, but the rest of it too closely echoes the monotonous dreck of the rest of the album). Since 2009, MTV Unplugged specials have aired occasionally, sometimes online only. The show aired regularly from 1989 to 1999 and less frequently from 2000 to 2009, when it was usually billed as MTV Unplugged No. Goode" is no "Bad Girls," and the original material, aside from "Warm Love In A Cold World," is dreadful. MTV Unplugged is an American television series on MTV showcasing musical artists usually playing acoustic instruments. The way to go was disco, and since he didn't understand it, he put himself in the hands of one who did. As I see it, Elton wasn't just thinking hits he had a pop crown to hold onto and the Brothers Gibb were pulling it from his head. You can hear echoes of that album in this one, particularly the beat carrying on between tracks to facilitate one long dance per album side and the attempt at marrying disco and rock. Pete Bellotte was also a producer with much disco-pop crossover success he along with Giorgio Moroder had just produced Bad Girls for Donna Summer. I've heard he was doped out and didn't care, banged the thing out in a day, and forgot about it. The mystery for me is more why Elton surrendered complete creative control to his producer for the first time as a solo artist.
